"We can't thank you enough! Our wedding day was just perfect. I never imagined everything could go so smoothly."
– Michelle and Charles Haas
For your ceremony, we handle every detail, from who will walk the bride's mother down the aisle to processional music selection. We will organize and conduct your rehearsal. We also provide separate dressing rooms for your bridal parties upstairs in the Mansion for use prior to the ceremony. If you would like to come out sometime before your wedding for a bridal portrait or couples portrait, then the use of our dressing rooms and the grounds for pictures is also included. For outdoor ceremonies, we use white wooden chairs with rounded backs and padded seats. For indoor ceremonies, we use teak wooden chairs. We also have a sound system that can be used either outdoors or indoors for your ceremony music, if you do not plan to provide live music.
For your reception, we hold your hand throughout the entire planning process and serve as your day-of coordinator as well. Our well-qualified wedding coordinators meet with you to create a timeline for the evening, discuss your set-up options, plan your menu, design your wedding cakes, and whatever else you need.
We can provide you with most everything you will need on your wedding day - the catering, the cakes, the flowers and decorations, wait staff, bartenders, and gratuities, the china, the glassware, the silverware, cloth napkins, the seating tables, cocktail tables, linens, the service tables (buffet, cake, guest book, bar and gift tables), Free Trade organic coffee, ice tea punch, an invitation for two to a seasonal food and cake tasting, map inserts for your invitations, a projector screen for slide shows, a sound system for CDs or an iPod, and more! As professionals who have been in the industry for years, our wedding coordinators can help you even with the things we do not provide and we are happy to share what we have learned in our experiences and to make recommendations for booking vendors we deem suitable based on your personality, financial considerations, and desired style.
We do not carry a liquor license and therefore do not sell alcohol. This is actually to your benefit if you plan to serve alcohol to your guests. This not only allows you to pick from an infinite selection, but also to shop the best price in the marketplace. We do serve the alcohol, however, which ensures safe handling and professionalism. We provide the glassware, barware, bartenders, and ice. If you plan to have a full bar, we also provide all your mixers - lemons, limes, cherries, sodas, tonic, cranberry juice, etc. You need not worry about anything except for the alcohol itself.
From a lush garden statuary with roses to a trickling waterfall to ornate Victorian gingerbread porches to garden archways to 40-foot walls of glass, there are many beautiful and unique locations for your wedding ceremony. Our outdoor ceremonies can be moved inside at the last minute, and our Artisan Ballroom provides many options for a simply stunning "Plan B."
For your reception, the use of the Barr Mansion, the Artisan Ballroom, and the grounds are included.
The Barr Mansion is a romantic Eastlake Victorian home built in 1898. Heavily laden gingerbread porches surround three sides of the home exposing old southern extravagance no longer seen today. The interior's five large rooms graced with original art, antiques, and 100-year-old Persian rugs feature elaborately carved mantles and staircases made from oak and, now extinct, East Texas "curly pine." Hand-painted ceilings adorn the parlor and dining room. The rooms upstairs can be used as dressing rooms for the bridal parties, which are separate, large rooms. Cocktail receptions in the downstairs rooms may take place, usually spilling out onto the patio behind the Mansion underneath our large, sprawling pecan tree with hanging fans.. A grand piano in the parlor room can be used for live music. The Mansion can also used or intimate entertaining such as rehearsal dinners.
The Artisan Ballroom is a green building with soul. Massive rough-hewn timbers from an acient barn built in the 1770's were carefully taken apart, carefully numbered, and transported from New York's Catskill Mountains, to form the buildings massive framework. The front facade sours over 40 feet, is composed entirely of delicate glass, and allows the beauty of the inside to be a part of the glory of the gardens outside. Two master craftsmen from the Cotswolds of England came and thatched the roof a full 12 inches thick. A giant 250 square foot mural painted by Austin artist Doug Jaques hangs above a stage, which can be used as a curtain—raised and lowered over the stage. An indoor waterfall and grotto at the foot of a church bell-tower accent a section of the ballroom composed entirely of glass. We constantly considered the environmental footprint, or impact, of our building on the earth—it is very organic, sustainable, and nourishing.
Each year we plant over 1,000 bulbs which bloom all year long, including antique roses, hollyhocks, bridal wreath, bluebonnets, fox glove, iris, and many other lush plants and flowers. There are always many blooms in our gardens., even in the winter months. A Zen Garden composed of raked white pebbles adds to the wonder as you approach the Artisan Ballroom on a path of colossal flagstones. The garden of Eden has a more exotic, tropical feel with bamboos, gingers, hostas and of course, apple trees! Seven acres of beautifully manicured gardens surround the property.
Our unique setting allows us to accommodate any size group comfortably. The Ballroom is ideal for groups 50 to 350 depending on the layout of the music, dance floor, and number of tables. For large groups, the patio in front of the ballroom is utilized. Groups up to 800 have been hosted with tables scattered throughout the entire lawn and garden areas. Since Austin's annual temperatures are very mild, people almost always request to have a portion of the celebration outside to enjoy our natural surroundings and the romance of a moonlit night. In the event of rainy or cold weather, canopies, connecting directly to the ballroom, adorned with paper lanterns and twinkle lights can be erected and heated to cover the outdoor seating.
